Message from the Principal

At Empire School we are dedicated to providing a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment for our students. We believe that all students can and will learn in a supportive environment where the school and the home work cooperatively to ensure student success.
The team at Empire School is student focused and share the belief that a mistake is an opportunity to learn. Every student is treated with respect, their accomplishments are valued and celebrated, their environment is safe and nurturing, and a variety of learning strategies are provided to create attitudes that promote life long learners. We actively encourage parent and teacher partnerships that model tolerance and respect for every child.
This website is but one of the vehicles for the on-going communication between parents, teachers and children and is necessary for students to achieve educational success. We hope that it is a useful and practical source of information for all who use it.

Although I believe there are a multitude of great things about Empire Public School, I would like to share the twelve best things about our wonderful school.

1. An excellent facility for staff and students
Empire is a bright and clean school with three tall floors to enhance our fitness levels.

2. Great play areas
This includes a separate section with playground equipment for the younger students, basketball areas, hopscotch, & 4- square tarmac areas, as well as a soccer/baseball field.

3. Programs to meet the needs of all students
Our school offers junior kindergarten to grade 8 classes. Although each class maintains its own integrity, all staff work together as a professional learning community to ensure student success for all.

4. An emphasis on character education
Each month staff and students focus on a different virtue such as trustworthiness, fairness or responsibility, with the intent to develop students’ strong character and good citizenship.

5. Supportive parents
Our parents send us the best children they have – their prized possessions. Parents are always welcome to visit or volunteer in the school.

6. Eager students
A delightful, energetic student body arrives each day ready to learn. They will undoubtedly make significant contributions to our world.

7. Dedicated and enthusiastic staff members
All staff strive to create an environment where students feel safe, comfortable and respected while helping students achieve their academic potentials. These members include all teaching staff, caretakers, crossing guards, our youth counsellor, teacher candidates from local universities, Niagara College students, Eastdale Secondary School co-op students and all members of our community partners.

8. An ever-growing active School Council
Parents provide a valuable role in providing input on decision-making, raising funds for school projects and sponsoring student activities. Our School Council members are active in developing positive experiences for the students and their families.

9. High expectations for academic excellence
Students are expected to do their very best academically. We have a supportive staff who believe that all students can be successful when given the strategies to do so.

10. High expectations for student behaviour
In January 2005, our school implemented the Champs Classroom Management program (© Randy Sprick), a positive classroom management framework. To the credit of all staff members and their tenacity to ensure its success, the program has proven to be highly successful throughout the whole school. Empire has become a model school for Champs in the DSBNiagara.

11. Caring community partners
Our school has a long history with our official, loyal business and community partner, Pen Financial (formerly Atlas & Civic Credit Union) Welland Branch. They always make our students feel special! Recycled Kids have been actively involved in supporting our students each year in the areas of nutrition and after school activities.

12 . A friendly principal with a cool office
